AI Home Inventory vs the other inventory apps
The difference is the unit of work. AI Home Inventory starts with room photos and a suggested list of visible items. Review the list, correct estimates, and add close-ups or items the photos missed.
Last updated October 31, 2026
Home inventory apps have converged on the same design: point the camera at an object, let the AI name it, file it in a folder. That produces a catalogue, and catalogues are useful for moving and for finding things. An insurance claim needs something else: every item in the home, a defensible replacement value for each, and a total you can compare with your policy's contents limit. AI Home Inventory is built for the second job. Feature cells below are taken from each app's own App Store listing as of October 31, 2026. Not listed means the app's listing does not describe the feature.

What “whole-room scan” changes
A living room has forty insurable things in it. Photographing them one at a time is the reason inventories never get finished. Two wide shots and one open-closet shot produce the same forty lines in about a minute of camera time, each with a box drawn on the photo so you can see which line is which. The trade is precision: a wide shot cannot read a model number, so AI Home Inventory asks for close-ups of the valuable items rather than pretending. Read how that works on the how it works page.
Each app, honestly
KeepTrack: AI Home Inventory
Photograph items one by one, organise by home or storage, and export location-specific PDF reports for moving or insurance.
Where it wins: Finding things later: it is built around where each item is stored, which suits moving and storage units.
Spullio: AI Home Inventory
A household catalogue with no account, stored in your own iCloud, with barcode scanning, Apple Intelligence field suggestions on supported devices, lending, and PDF or ZIP export. Requires iOS 26.
Where it wins: A simpler, tidier catalogue if you want a place for every thing rather than an insurance document.
MovingBox: AI Home Inventory
Built for packing: label boxes, list what went in each, and know where it ended up.
Where it wins: A move. If the job is boxes rather than a policy, it is the better fit.
Itemory - AI Inventory Tracker
Per-item AI cataloguing stored on your device, with optional iCloud sync and CSV or JSON export.
Where it wins: Portability: your inventory lives on your device and exports as CSV or JSON.
Home Inventory AI
A US$2.99 catalogue app for iPhone and iPad that recognises items from photos.
Where it wins: Price. A one-off US$2.99 if you only want a list.
Sortly
A general inventory system with folders, custom fields, QR labels and reports, sold on a subscription and aimed mainly at small businesses.
Where it wins: Anything with stock levels, barcodes and a team: it is a business tool first.
For a home inventory, see a Sortly alternative.

When you should pick something else
- You are packing for a move and want to know which box a thing went into: MovingBox.
- You want a tidy per-item catalogue on your own device: Itemory.
- You run stock for a small business with barcodes and a team: Sortly.
- You want a list for a couple of dollars and don't need values or a report: Home Inventory AI.
For everything that ends with a policy, a claim, a move-out condition report or an estate, the room-photo approach with values and a PDF is the faster path. Compare the wider field on the best home inventory apps page, or the business-tool question on Sortly alternatives.
Questions
What does AI Home Inventory do that item-at-a-time apps don't?
It lists a whole room from two photographs instead of one object per photo, gives most items an estimated replacement-cost range, tells you what the shot could not show so you can photograph it, and totals everything against your policy's contents limit. Item-at-a-time apps are catalogues; this is an insurance document.
Are the values appraisals?
No. They are estimated ranges for what a new item of equivalent kind and quality costs at current retail, which is how most policies settle contents claims. Jewelry, art and collectibles are never given a number; the app asks for an appraisal or receipt and uses that figure instead.
Which app is best for a move?
MovingBox, if the job is boxes. AI Home Inventory documents what you own and what it is worth; it does not track which box a thing went into.
Which is the most private?
Spullio needs no account and keeps your data in your own iCloud. AI Home Inventory stores photos with your account on our servers so the inventory survives losing the phone; you can delete the account and all photos in the app at any time. Check each app's App Store privacy label before choosing.
